The name is taken from a 70ft waterfall, located a short walk behind the hotel. The Spout is spectacular on its own, but let us not forget the location; some of our rooms offer scenery you can only dream of, with long distance views across the Esk Valley. The surrounding country side is full of walks to lose yourself and days to treasure.
From the exterior the hotel is a charming country house, dating back to 1892. Once inside you will discover that we are not stuffy or nostalgic, despite the fact that the building is grade ll listed. The Mallyan is a comfortable, welcoming place.
To the side we have the heather rich North Yorkshire Moors, a landscape ever changing and so stunning you won’t want to leave.
Opposite is Goathland parish church - built on a site which has celebrated worship for many hundreds of years; a sign of the history of the village.
Goathland is noted for its wide open greens upon which many sheep have happily grazed over the years and still do.
Our gardens are surrounded by all of the above, imagine spending a glorious afternoon or indeed a wedding, family gathering or just a romantic moment – and all this without even stepping inside the hotel.
We offer three lounges, roaring log fires, and sublime comfort. Two bars serving real ales, bar food selection, Ala Carte restaurant, twenty en-suite bedrooms all refurbished to an extremely high specification, and the best of what we offer- an unmatchable standard of service.
We pride ourselves on our staff. Many of which have been with us for the nine years the hotel has been privately owned by Nicola and Stuart Knight and Kay Bell. It is the people that make the Mallyan- we go that extra mile.
