1. Visit York

York is a city that really does have it all; fascinating history, awe-inspiring architecture, a maze of quaint, cobbled streets and an array of activities and sightseeing opportunities for all.

Host to a huge range of cafes, boutiques and designer stores, restaurants, bars, clubs and traditional public houses, York is guaranteed to appeal to everyone. Boat trips, museums, tours, historic buildings and even evening ghost walks around the city are available in abundance.

The fact that this is all enclosed within the city's ancient wall, against the backdrop of the infamous York Minster and divided by the beautiful River Ouse creates a truly enchanting city.

2. Explore Whitby

Whitby is often referred to as the birthplace of the creation of the iconic 'Dracula'. Bram Stoker, the creator, was inspired by the enchanting, enigmatic atmosphere of the town, and beguiled by the enigma of its historical abbey and churches. Located on the North-East coast of England, Whitby is a sleepy, seaside town like no other.

A feeling of stepping back in time is apparent when visiting this incredibly scenic coastal resort. Nestling at the base of East Yorkshire's beautiful countryside, astounding views over the resort and the River Esk which runs through the centre can be witnessed from the outskirts. 3. Lake District National Park

4. Peak District National Park

Receiving approximately 10 million visitors annually, it is thought to be one of the most visited National Parks in the world and is a firm favourite amongst hikers and adventurers due to its undulating hills and dales, within magnificent scenery. If hiking is not your thing then an exhilarating cable-car ride will whisk you to the top of the hills in order to appreciate the amazing landscape

Being based in Derbyshire, in the North of England, large yet charming towns such as Derby, Chester and many more are also within easy access.

5. Leeds

Perhaps not of instant appeal to the foreign traveller, but certainly a must-see, is the vibrant City of Leeds.

Located in the county of West Yorkshire, Leeds is the third most highly populated city within England, after London and Birmingham. It is the largest financial and legal centre in the country outside of London.

This large city is constantly alive, providing day and evening entertainment rivaled only by the country's capital. Theatres, shows, clubs, bars, music festivals and more attract thousands of visitors, tourists and even celebrities wanting to sample the 'capital of the North'!
